Airports Vanuatu Limited (AVL) is a State-Owned Enterprise responsible for the operation, management and development of Vanuatu's international airport located in Port Vila, Santo, and Tanna.
Job Desctiption:
Position Purpose:
The Auto Mechanic Officer- Port Vila is responsible for diagnosing and resolving issues related to vehicle performance and appearance, ensuring all vehicles are maintained to the required standard category for safe and continuous operations at the Port Vila International Airport.
The Position is based in Port Vila, with occasional travel to other AVL airports as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults in airport vehicles and Fire Trucks
- Carry out routine servicing, preventive maintenance, and safety checks in accordance to aviation safety standards
- Ensure all vehicles remain serviceable, roadworthy and compliant with airport operational and safety requirements
- Respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns to minimize disruption to airport operations
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs and defect reports
- Identify and recommend repair solutions and replacement parts
- Coordinate Maintenance schedules
- Ensure workshop tools are kept in safe, clean and serviceable condition
- Comply with occupational health and safety procedures at all times
- Assist in monitoring fuel usage, spare parts inventory and workshop supplies
- Support emergency operations by ensuring availability and reliability of critical airport vehicles
Selection Criteria:
Essential
- Trade Certificate in Automotive Mechanic or equivalent qualification
- 5+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic vehicle systems
- Ability to diagnose faults and carry out repairs efficiently and safely
- Ability to work independently or as a team to meet deadlines
- Good record keeping and basic report writing skills
- Willingness to work late, weekends and respond to emergency call-outs when required
- Have a good command of English or French in both
- Good interpersonal skills (verbal and written)
Desirable:
- Certificate I- Automotive Engineering (Servicing) or Diploma in Automotive Engineering
- Proven experience on Light and Heavy Automotive Engineering
- Experience in small engines and knowledge in welding and soldering
- Basic computer skills
- Familiar with preventive maintenance Programme on asset management system
Special Attributes:
- Must be medically and physically fit
- Must have a valid Police Clearance
- The ability to respond to any late nights or early morning hours' emergency at the airport premises
- Valid Driver's license preferably has also a valid heavy duty drivers license
