Contract Glass & Aluminium Ltd

Location:

Port Vila

Due Date:

16-03-2026

Type:

Full Time

Organisation Description:

We Currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Operations & Fabrication Supervisor who wants to join a well established business where every employee is valued.

Job Desctiption:

To oversee the end-to-end fabrication process of glass and aluminium products while supervising the daily activities of both the workshop fabrication team and on-site glazier/fitter crews. This role ensures that every custom-cut piece and assembled frame meets CGA's quality standards and is delivered to the site on time.
Production & Workshop Management

Directly supervise the fabrication floor, ensuring all aluminium joinery, window frames, and glass cutting align with project blueprints and technical specifications.

Coordinate the daily workflow between the Fabrication Team (workshop) and the Fitting Team (on-site) to prevent bottlenecks.

Implement and maintain strict quality control checks at each stage of the fabrication process.

Operational Oversight

Manage labor allocation for a diverse team of operational staff, glaziers, and fitters.

Oversee inventory and supply chain: track stock levels of specific glass types, aluminium extrusions, consumables, and tools.

Supervise project programming to ensure all CGA installations remain on schedule and fully compliant with building codes.
Risk Management & Safety

Enforce a culture of "Safety First," specifically regarding the handling of heavy glass and the operation of fabrication machinery (e.g., saws, CNC machines, or drills).

Conduct regular site and workshop inspections to identify potential hazards and implement immediate corrective actions.

Lead incident investigations and develop strategies to minimize operational downtime

Team Leadership & Development

Provide hands-on training for junior fabricators and apprentices to improve the technical skill set within the business.

Monitor staff performance and ensure the team has the necessary tools and PPE to execute their roles effectively.

Selection Criteria:

1. Technical Experience & Qualifications
Trade Background: A recognized trade qualification in Glazing, Fenestration (window/door construction), or Light Metal Fabrication.

Industry Experience: Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in the glass and aluminium industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or "Leading Hand" capacity.

Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of architectural aluminium systems (e.g., Carinya, Invisi-Gard, or similar high-performance framing).

Technical Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret complex architectural drawings, shop drawings, and glass cutting sheets with high precision.

Tooling: Expert-level skill in operating mitre saws, CNC routers, glass cutters, and various pneumatic assembly tools.

2. Specialized Skills
Fabrication Logic: Advanced knowledge of "deductions" and "allowances" when cutting aluminium extrusions to ensure perfect fitment during assembly.

Project Programming: Skills in scheduling fabrication cycles so that workshop output matches the pace of the on-site installation teams.

Quality Assurance: A "keen eye" for identifying defects in powder coating, glass scratches, or poor sealant application before items leave the workshop.

3. Leadership & Soft Skills
Team Supervision: Proven ability to manage a split team (workshop fabricators vs. site installers) and maintain high morale and productivity.

Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot "site-fit" issues where architectural plans don't perfectly match the physical building openings.

Safety Leadership: Strict adherence to OHS/WHS standards, particularly regarding heavy lifting (glass handling) and power tool safety.

Conflict Resolution: Experience handling on-site disputes with other sub-contractors or responding to client concerns professionally.

4. Physical & General Requirements
Physical Fitness: The role requires active movement between the workshop floor and construction sites, including lifting and maneuvering heavy materials.

Driver's License: A clean, valid driving license (suitable for manual utility vehicles or light trucks) is mandatory for site visits and deliveries

Salary:

Package: A competitive remuneration package will be provided, to be discussed during the interview process based on the candidate's specific skills and industry experience.
