Job Description: 
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for oversee accounting department functions to ensure efficiency and compliance include supervising employees, maintaining financial records, and assisting with audits.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Primary focus on managing day- to- day accounting, accounts payable/cash disbursements, month end close process
  • Monitors and reviews general ledger accounts against receivable and payable subsidiary ledgers and recommending or approving journals to ensure accuracy of transactions
  • Reviews and interprets balance sheet and profit and loss statements, consolidated financial statements, and other accounting schedules and reports
  • Identify control weaknesses, communications to management and operates in a lead capacity in making remedial changes to tighten and enhance controls
  • Assist in implementing accounting policies under direction of Financial Controller
  • Review payroll schedules
  • Coach and mentors general accounting clerks.

         About VEAC
      The Vanuatu Education Advocacy Coalition (VEAC) is a national education advocacy coalition of civil society organisations with the aim of engaging the Government of Vanuatu and other stakeholders on national education policy, to help ensure that all Ni-Vanuatu have access to good quality education.

      Position Description:
      VEAC seeks a full time National Coordinator for this exciting position to steer the implementation of its important work. The position is based in Port Vila. 

      Roles and responsibilities include the following:
      • Coordinate and manage VEAC’s program, projects, staff and office administration
      • Prepare and send quarterly reports to the Board prior to their meetings
      • Work closely with Board Chair to coordinate Board meetings, take minutes, and disseminate to Board members
      • Liaise with civil society organisations (CSOs), government officials, donors and other stakeholders on behalf of VEAC
      • Coordinate and ensure the design and implementation of workshops, training consultations, surveys, research and capacity strengthening measures for VEAC’S members and constituency
      • Coordinate and ensure the development and dissemination of policy briefs and case studies on aspects of education, and the writing of project proposals and narrative and financial reports
      • Prepare and lead in lobbying and advocacy initiatives with the Government of Vanuatu and with donors
      • Work closely with Program’s Finance Consultant, Board Treasurer and other financial staff to ensure careful management and acquittal of the program and finances and the timely preparation of program narrative and financial reports
      • Consult regularly with ASPBAE Australia in its capacity support role for CSEF funded networks and coalitions, especially in relation to major program and financial decisions and reporting
      • Undertake other tasks as required by the VEAC Board.
      Criteria:
      Experience and Knowledge:
      • Sound knowledge of Vanuatu and Pacific political, economic and social development issues
      • Strong experience in program, staff and financial management, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
      • Experience in lobbying and policy analysis and advocacy
      • Experience in writing reports and proposals and developing budgets
      • Experience working with CSOs at a national level is preferable
      • Experience as a community based educator / facilitator and familiarity with participatory learning approaches would be an advantage
      • Experience in mobilizing resources
      • A relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
