Job Desctiption:

VAN-PAWA Ltd is inviting sealed applications for the position of Power Plant Manager to join the Tanna and Malekula team residing in Port Vila and travelling to the islands. The Power Plant Manager will provide overall technical management and support, this may include anything from replacing outdated equipment to installing new safety features to improve the overall performance of our team to ensure that Van-Pawa Ltd service provision aligns with good industrial practices, and regulatory requirements and adheres to customer expectations.
As a Power Plant Manager, you will be responsible for the development of new power plant technologies such as the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of diesel power plants. The Power Plant Manager should be able to incorporate emerging technologies such as renewable energy solutions into the existing generation mix to ensure that Van-Pawa Ltd operations align with Government Energy Policies and changes in the global energy market.

 

Selection Criteria:

Key Responsibilities
• Monitoring plant operations to ensure compliance with safety regulations
• Evaluating designs for new power plants and making recommendations on improvements
• Conducting site surveys to determine the suitability of sites for power plants
• Preparing operating instructions and manuals for plant staff, including operating procedure protocols and safety procedures
• Performing periodic inspections of equipment to ensure that it is functioning properly
• Coordinating with other engineers or contractors
• Operating computer controls to monitor transmission lines, generators, and other equipment
• Installing and repairing equipment such as turbines, generators, transformers, pulleys, belts, pipes, valves, pumps, etc.
• Reviewing plans for new construction projects to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
• Be able to operate, Monitor, control, and diagnose synchronized power plant setup
• Be able to train and mentor intern engineers.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in electrical or mechanical engineering
• 5+ years' experience in power plant engineering or a related field
• Experience with commissioning and start-up of power plants
• Experience with project management
• Experience with grid-connected renewable energy technologies

Competencies and skills
• Working knowledge of relevant software programs
• Strong understanding of power plant systems, including cooling systems, turbines, generators, and controls
• Ability to develop and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and calculations
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Excellent leadership skills and ability to manage a team
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and reporting skills
• Strong analytical and system-diagnosing skills
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritize and multitask
• Demonstrate ethical and integrity attributes.
• Ability to build relationships with corporate partners and other relevant stakeholders.
