CARE is an international humanitarian and development organisation fighting global poverty, with a vision to which focuses on empowering women and girls to fight poverty and bring lasting change to their communities. We work in over 80 countries around the world. We work with partners to achieve lasting results for marginalized communities.
We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our team based in Port Vila with significant travel to other sites.
The Communications Officer will help tell the story about CARE’s programs and get important messages out to communities.
Your major responsibilities will be varied and will include implementing CARE’s communications strategy by developing stories and communications materials to share the work CARE is doing with key stakeholders, including the media, donors, partners, communities and the general public.
        Criteria:
        Required qualifications and skills:
        • Minimum diploma and/or vocational training in journalism, communications or a related field, and/or minimum 2 years relevant work experience
        • Professional communication skills in Bislama and strong communication skills in English, including an ability to write press releases, human interest stories and communications materials appropriate for an NGO stakeholder audiences
        • Ability to develop creative communication products, tools and approaches
        • Good awareness of the media industry and ability to cultivate relationships with media outlets and representatives as well as other stakeholders
        • Awareness and sensitivity to the particular issues facing vulnerable and marginalized people in Vanuatu and the development landscape in Vanuatu
        • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
        • Good organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan your own work to meet deadlines
        • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities
        • Good skills in Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel.
        Desirable:
        • Relevant work experience with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO)
        • Experience in communicating via new and social media platforms
        • Demonstrated skills in photography, videography and/or graphic design.
