This position provides services to the Project Manager to co-ordinate and manage the trades involved in projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, co-ordinate and manage trades in accordance with the specific contract agreement and related documents
  • regularly inspect and report to the Project Manager the status of Subcontractors' installation quality, performance and progress
  • On design and build projects, liaise with Clients, Consultants and Subcontractors to ensure technical compliance with the design brief is achieved with the budget/scope of works, and provide reports on Consultants compliance with design briefs
  • Coordinate all activities of Subcontractors and ensure drawings and necessary documentation is prepared prior to manufacture and installation of components
  • Over the implementation and functions of the quality system. This includes assistance in preparing specific project Quality and Safety Plans.

  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in a Project Engineering role
  • Experience in general civil works with a preference to marine works, marine structures and reclaim works.

The position operates as a supervisory member of a team and act between the Site Manager and workforce and/or Subcontractors in fulfilling their key tasks and responsibility of carrying out construction opportunity safely, within time and to quality criteria.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the work of Subcontractors and maintain health and safety plans that adhere to Hawkins' Health and Safety programs as well as to Vanuatu's Health and Safety requirements
  • Understand the contract documentation and the budget structure for projects and assist the site team to apply this knowledge
  • Perform quality checks on the work of own forces and other trade and ensure any rework required is completed quickly and to required quality
  • In conjunction with the Project Manager, ensure that adequate labour resources are maintained on site to meet programme and budget targets
  • Place written purchase orders for materials using the agreed procedure with the approval of the Project Manager.

  • Relevant trade background experience required
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience supervising a team of tradesmen
  • Experienced general civils practitioner with a background in earthworks, roading, concrete works, services, street scaping and finishing works

5786 Export Industry Coordinator

A number of Industry Working Group (IWGs) have been established in Vanuatu to promote public/private sector partnership on export development in the agricultural sector including kava, cocoa and livestock. The Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) is now seeking to engage a citizen for the position of Export Industry Coordinator to progress development of these IWGs into representative and sustainable industry bodies and to assist in relevant activities to assist in export industry growth.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Providing secretarial support and coordinating capacity building for the industry groups
  • Assisting with development of industry strategies, activity plans and budgets
  • Promoting the coordinator role of industry groups to stakeholders
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between IWG members, VCCI and other industry stakeholders, government and development partners
  • With reference to national and sectoral policty frameworks and relevant industry environments provide strategic guidance on development of the IWGs into sustainable and representative industry bodies
  • Identify capacity groups to progress development of co-financing arrangements, with private sector, government and relevant development programmes.

  •  A tertiary level degree
  • Prior work experience in the fields of private sector development, business trade or agriculture would be preferable
  • Excellent communication skills including a high level of proficiency in oral and written English and Bislama (proficiency in French would also be desirable)

  • Sound skills in office administration, including proficiency in relevant computer applications
  • Good understanding of the productive sector and business and trade environments
  • Ability to plan and coordinate activities effectively with team members and with external stakeholders
