Organisation Description:
About Archipel Solutions
Archipel Solutions is a Vanuatu-based rural fuel and hardware company supporting communities in outer islands. We operate fuel stations and small hardware supply points in remote locations on Epi and Pentecost, with Port Vila as our central operations base.
Our business focuses on the supply of essential products such as fuel, building materials, and roofing for households, small businesses, and community infrastructure. We serve customers in the outer islands who would otherwise have limited access to reliable and affordable supplies.
Archipel works closely with local partners and logistics providers to ensure consistent delivery and safe operations across the islands. Our team is hands-on, practical, and community-focused, with a strong emphasis on reliability, safety, and service.
As the business continues to grow, we are strengthening our operations and team to support expansion and improve service delivery across Vanuatu.
Job Desctiption:
Role Overview
We are looking for a strong operator to run Archipel Solutions day to day. Your job is to grow revenue and profit from our fuel and hardware network, with a primary focus on roofing sheets, while building simple systems that local teams can execute.
You will manage small teams on multiple islands, coordinate with our shipping company for monthly resupply, and turn Archipel into a predictable, well-run rural distribution business so the owner can focus on Ocean Logistics.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the P&L for Archipel Solutions (fuel, hardware, roofing).
- Grow sales and gross profit, especially in roofing sheets, through simple offers and consistent execution (e.g. 10-pack roofing deals, local promotions, Facebook campaigns).
- Manage and develop island station operators and warehouse staff; set targets, coach performance, and enforce basic processes.
- Oversee stock management and cash control at each site; ensure accurate counts, timely orders, and minimal stock-outs or shrinkage.
- Plan and coordinate monthly resupply runs with the Ocean Logistics vessels (fuel and hardware to Epi, Pentecost, and other islands as we expand).
- Implement and maintain simple, practical systems: pricing sheets, operator scripts, signage, checklists, and basic reporting.
- Maintain strong relationships with local chiefs, councils, key customers and partners in each island community.
- Report monthly to the owner on: revenue by site, gross margin, net profit, stock-outs, cash issues, and key actions.
Selection Criteria:
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in hardware, building materials, construction supply, or similar trade/retail environment.
- Proven track record managing a small P&L and delivering sales and profit growth.
- Experience managing frontline staff (yard, warehouse, store, or site teams).
- Comfortable working in an emerging market / rural or multi-site context; willing to travel to island locations with basic conditions.
- Bislama
- Strong English; capable with basic spreadsheets and WhatsApp-based coordination.
- Able to relocate to and legally work in Vanuatu (work permit support available).
Nice to have
- Experience with hardware, roofing, cement, steel, and/or fuel products.
- Prior experience in the Pacific or other island/remote logistics environment.
