EXPRESSION OF INTEREST


The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) seeks expressions of interest from suitably experienced persons to assist the Curriculum Development Unit translate written materials from English to French and/or Bislama.

Successful applicants will have their names added to a pool of translators who may be called on to provide translation support when required. 

Translators will work under the supervision of Curriculum Coordinators in the CDU responsible for specific learning areas.

Applicants should be good writers and speakers of either English and Bislama or English and French and preferably be competent users of Microsoft Word or compatible word processing software. 

Deliverables
Translators will be required to:   
  1. Translate a range of written material from English to either French or Bislama
  2. Deliver translated materials in Microsoft Word format
  3. Meet agreed timelines for delivery of written materials
Conditions
Engagement of translators will be on as needs basis.  Where translators conduct their work will be negotiated with the Principal Education Officer of the Curriculum Development Unit.

Payment will be made at an agreed rate and paid on receipt of the finished product and an invoice.

    Criteria:
    Applicants will be included on the register of translators based on the following criteria:
    • Ability to read and write in English, French or Bislama
    • Ability to translate written materials from either English or French to Bislama with a high degree of accuracy
    • Ability to translate from Bislama into English or French
    • Good writing skills and experience using Word for Windows or similar word processing software
    • Demonstrated ability to work to deadlines
    • A strong teaching or education background is highly desirable (essential?).

          Objet
          Ce poste est responsable de l’administration de la Commission des lois de Vanuatu afin de soutenir l’exécution des responsabilités légales de la Commission, y compris la gestion des ressources humaines et des finances.           • Excellentes compétences en écoute et en communication orale et écrite

                      Job Description:
                      The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu via the Ministry of Justice and Community Services (MJCS) is seeking to recruit a Ni-Vanuatu Legal personnel to fill the position of Secretary – Law Commission.

                      Purpose:
                      Position manages the administration of the Vanuatu Law Commission to support the delivery of the Commission’s statutory responsibilities including the management of all human resources and finance. The position also provides secretariat support to the Commission and provides advice to the Chairperson of the Commission on law reform for the Republic of Vanuatu through a consultative approach and through reporting.

                      • A degree in law from a recognized university
                      Experience & Skills
                      • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in practising law or as a legal drafter
                      • Strong research, analysis and investigative skills for policy development and research that facilitates effective contextualised law reform for Vanuatu
                      • Ability to think practically, strategically and analytically to support defensible and appropriate policy positions for Vanuatu’s law reform
                      • Effective listening, verbal presentation and written communication skills
                      • Good team player - has team building skills and ability to build rapport with Judiciary, State Law Office, Secretary of Parliament, justice agencies, professional associations, community groups and other stakeholders
                      • Good time management and organisational skills – with ability to work under pressure, prioritise,  and meet deadlines
                      • Programme and Project Management skills
                      Special Skills
                      • Computer skills – well suited in Microsoft programs (i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
                      • Valid driving license is preferable
