Job Description:

Full time and part time positions for up to 6 months fixed term contract. Based in Port Vila. Current classroom teachers are encouraged to apply and may be seconded to the unit or can work via flexible arrangements.



The Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) of the Ministry of Education has completed the development of new curriculum for Years 1-6. It is planned to commence the implementation of these new syllabuses in all primary schools from 2015, starting with Year 1.



The Curriculum Development Unit is currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons who would like to join the writing teams being set up in the Curriculum Development Unit (CDU) to write the teachers’ guides for the new Year 1-3 curriculum. The writers will:

• assist the Year 1-3 materials and training team to define the common framework and templates for the teachers’ guides.

• assist in writing the teachers’ guide in French or in English using the templates.

• ensure that the teachers’ guide is developed consistent with the syllabuses and the VNCS directions

• Develop teachers’ guides for year 1 in Bislama so they are consistent with the French and English versions

• Work closely with VITE, CDU, EAU staff.



Short-listed applicants will be required to complete a writing activity as part of the selection process.

To be considered for a role on the writing team the following experience and skills are required:

Criteria:

• A teaching qualification in primary education. Current classroom teachers are encouraged to apply.

• Extensive, successful teaching experience in primary schools with at least 3 to 5 years teaching in the early grades. Experience in both urban and rural classrooms is highly desirable.

• Experience writing curriculum or participating in the curriculum development process is highly desirable. This could be with the CDU or with an organization offering commercial curriculum.

• Good teaching practices for developing literacy and numeracy in the early years of schooling, as well as a sound understanding of current approaches to assessment.

• Good written skills in English and/or French are essential (a mix of Anglophone and Francophone writers will be appointed)

• Good writing skills in Bislama are essential (for all applicants).

• Positive attitude, flexible, a good team player who is willing to learn and pass on skills to others.
