The VNSO is committed to providing high quality, reliable  and timely statistical data and information to assist the government and the community to make better informed decisions. The VNSO has to respond to the needs of its users by providing statistics to meet emerging needs, particularly for social trends and the state of the physical environment. To perform well the VNSO has to build and maintain good relationships with key providers of information and the users of that information.

Job Desctiption:
The Deputy Government Statistician would be responsible for ensuring regular dialogue between agencies in the national statistical system and users of statistical information and coordination of the national statistical system.

Selection Criteria:
1. Degree in Economics/Statistics/Management and Public Administration or related field;

2. At least 5 years or more working experience at a senior level, five or more years in managing statistical service.  Strong personality and commitment to manager statistical programs/ activities for Vanuatu including its human and financial resources in line to program budgetary provision.  Strong appreciation of, and the ability to use, data processing and standard statistical packages (SPSS, PARADOX, IMPS, SAS, …etc);

3. Drivers license an advantage;

4. Computer literacy with familiarity with statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, ACCESS
IMPS etc. would be an advantage;

5. Analytical, practical and creative;

6. Excellent interpersonal skills; and

7. English/French or both with Bislama is an advantage.


Salary:
VT 3,968,600 per annum
