Job Description:

The government of Vanuatu through the jointly managed governance for growth (GfG) program is working on developing an investment program to expand access to safe and reliable energy services for men and woman across vanuatu, known as the vanuatu energy for rural development program. Responsibilities for the governments electrification strategy and

coordination of energy activities in Vanuatu rests with the energy unit within the ministry of lands, geology, mines and water resources (MOL). The energy unit has recently engaged a GIS specialist to develop an energy geographical information systems (GIS) database to facilitate systematic energy planning in vanuatu. The EU is now seeking to engage an energy GIS

officer to support the energy unit’s energy planning needs by developing and maintaining the established energy GIS database. The position will be based within the energy unit in port vila, working closely with the vanuatu energy for rural development (VERD) program team. 1) Maintaining spatial linkages between the asset register and the GIS database

2) Integrating and/or producing additional GIS layers where required

3) Assisting in the conduct of surveys and feasibility studies of potential energy project sites.

Interested applicant must have the following requirements:

Criteria:

- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in IT, survey, geography or earth science; Sound experience in database development and management; Experience in GIS database management

advantageous but not essential; High level of computer literacy in ms word, excel and ms access; Familiarity with use of mapInfo or other GIS software is an advantage

- Experience in working with rural communities on implementation of development projects; Proven ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team; Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in english

and bislama, french language is an advantage; Familiarity with use of GPS devices is an advantage.
