Organisation Description: 

Cafe Vila offers a casual fine dining experience with an European fusion cuisine.  It is recognised as one of the best restaurants in Vanuatu and often frequented by guests and locals alike.


Job Desctiption:

• Cook menu items and specials to a high standard in quality and presentation and in a timely manner
• Supervise kitchen hands and assist as needed
• Monitor food stock daily and place orders
• Check freshness of food daily and discard out-of-date items
• Inform wait staff about daily specials
• Experiment with recipes and suggest new menu items and specials
• Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations within the kitchen area


Selection Criteria:

• Speak fluent English
• At least 2 years' experience as chef
• Loyal and trustworthy
• Able to work in a very busy restaurant with up to 90 people per shift
• Able to work any days of the week; Public Holidays; day and evening shifts; and split shifts
• Able to follow directions given by the Owner, Managers or colleagues
• Able to remain calm when the restaurant is very busy
• Good attention to detail
• Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment (e.g. grillers and pizza ovens)
• Good knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines
• Excellent time management
• Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
• Familiar with sanitation regulations
