Job Description:

Development of Girls Empowerment Foundation skills curriculum & training (10-18years)

Duration: Up to 50 days between May-August 2014

Base: Port Vila with travel to Tafea province

Reporting to: Women and Girls Empowerment Coordinator

Program background and objectives:

This consultancy is for the “Leftemap Gel-Wan Braet Fiuja” (Empowering our girls- with one bright future) project which is a component of “Leftemap Sista Program” - CARE’s Women and Girls Empowerment Program. The main objective of this project is “To develop strategies, a foundation skills curriculum and an overall model of change that can socially and economically empower

girls in Tafea province over 3 years”

The project is based in the Tafea Province. It aims to understand the challenges impacting on girls lives and begin the road to ensuring girls have a more supportive enabling environment around them to succeed. In partnership with local Government and NGOs the project will design and trial social and economic foundation skills curriculum for girls between 10-18yrs. The the individual

or organisation undertaking the consultancy must:

Responsibilities:

1.Map past and currently implemented adolescent life skills programs and curriculums in Vanuatu and the Pacific. Meet with key staff of these programs to discuss their approach, curriculum and lessons learned. 2.Meet with organization and potential partners to gauge interest in collaborating or receiving funding to implement life skills/foundation skills training for girls. 3.Building on

this experience of others in delivering life skills programs, in collaboration with key organisations, develop a foundation skills curriculum for girls aged10-18 years in Bislama (translated to English) 4.Train facilitators for the trial and complete a training report . 5.Undertake the first training trial in Tanna. Based on the trial facilitate reflection process to review the process and curriculum.

6.Update and finalise the foundation skills curriculum .7.Submit a final report (6 pages) including process taken and key recommendations going forward for the project.



Selection Criteria and skills.

Criteria:

•Absolute commitment and openness to work with others in support of gender equity and women’s empowerment

•Demonstrated work experience in the field of gender, women, girls & youth empowerment

•Experience in developing and facilitating life skills training with youth and particularly girls in Vanuatu

•Able to build positive relationships with groups, Government, NGOs and other agencies/groups involved in this sector of Women’s Affairs in Vanuatu.

•Qualifications in a relevant field; development, social studies, gender, health and or minimum of 5 years work experience in the development sector

•Very good Bislama and English language skills (written and oral).

•Proficient IT skills in Microsoft Word, excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

•A Vanuatu organisation or citizen
