Youth Challenge Vanuatu (YCV) is delighted to announce that our first Future Leaders Program on Santo will begin in June, 2011. YCV, in partnership with the Pacific Leadership Program seeks 15 hardworking & motivated youths between 18-30 years to be involved.
YCV’s highly successful Future Leaders Program has been running for 10 years. The program involves selected youth participating in Life Skills Training, Leadership Training, First Steps to Business and First Aid Training. Participants then prepare for one of YCV’s Rural Community Development Projects where they will stay in a community for 6-10 weeks working on community identified projects. Upon their return from the Rural Community Development Projects the participants will attend computer and job-seeking skills seminars before taking part in a 10 week internship placement with an indentified local organization.
There is no educational level that applicants need to have achieved. YCV are really looking for bright and motivated applicants who work well in groups and show a willingness to learn. This program is an opportunity for those young people who may have missed out on education or training in the past. Participants can develop their confidence, skills and experience through the Future Leaders Program. Coordinator for the Future Leaders Program, Santo, Mr Kalsongi Esau, believes that the Future Leaders Program, Santo, is “a great opportunity for youths in the Northern provinces to participate in an amazing program that until now has only been available in Port Vila.” The Future Leaders Program is free of charge for participants, thanks in part to funding from the Pacific Leadership Program.
The Pacific Leadership Program (PLP) is an AusAID initiative recognizing and supporting the pivotal role leadership plays at all levels in a nation’s path to development. Advised by a panel of eminent Pacific Leaders, PLP provides influential leaders opportunities and resources to pursue their aspirations toward national and regional development. This includes working with the leadership of organizations in target sectors to have greater impact in achieving their mission, assisting and challenging leaders to overcome the barriers that reduce their effectiveness and supporting emerging leaders.
PLP aims to be a responsive and active resource for Pacific Islanders and AusAID in creating knowledge and opportunities in leadership development and methods to support it. Leadership is by definition people focused and as such PLP often works through a partnership model based on personal engagement.
