The Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery, Forestry, Livestock, Bio-Security wishes to recruit a qualified person for the position of Assistant Meat Inspector. This position is to ensure meat hygiene standard is maintained for local and exported meat.

Duties & Responsiblitites:
- Carry out systematic inspection of animals, carcasses at abattoir according to documented work instructions.
- Detain suspect animals or carcasses and refer to the Senior Meat Inspector and Senior Veterinary Officer for a desicion
- Record weight, identification, sex of all carcasses and provide detailed information to Senior Meat Inspector
- Carry out inspection of all approved meat establishment
- Maintain up-to-date paper records of all meat inspection activities and file all documents appropriately
- Keep updated records of kill and inspection activities and file all documents appropriately
- Keep updated records of kill and inspection in the meat inspection database
- Assist meat Inspector quarterly meat skills assessment of Meat Inspectors
- Assist Meat Inspector with production of monthly reports.
This position reports directly to the Meat Inspector North and directly supervises Technical Assistant Meat Inspector.
The Assistant Meat Inspector will expect
- frequent internal personal contact with the positions of Meat Inspectors and Senior Veterinary Officers
- frequent External personal contact with abattoir personnel and butchery personnel
- Occasional Internal personal contact with MALFFB Corporate Services Unit Staff
- Occasional external personal contacts with Airport/Wharf personnel, meat retailers, rural butchery personnel.
